Saturdays aren’t for working

Every Saturday I’ll bring you something different, just for fun.

When something’s wrong, chicken soup is the answer.

There’s a lot of cheesy stuff written about chicken soup. Just seeing if I could find a cool YouTube for this post revealed that every single local TV station has done the same human interest story asking if it really is a cure for a cold.

It’s as evergreen as evergreen news stories get.

There was even a book back in the nineties, Chicken Soup for the Soul, sort of a Gen X version of Eat Pray Love. And like everything good that came out of the ninetees, it has become a huge business specializing in spiritual light books … and pet food, for some reason. I kid you not, have a look.

That’s what you did in the nineties and early aughts, you turned one successful book into a whole business rehashing basically the same thing again and again. That’s how we got the Rich Dad company or Robin Sharma’s endless iterations of The Monk who Sold his Ferrari. World experts in marketing, even when they claimed to be experts in leadership.

And even if the formula feels trite and predictable, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work. Sometimes the right thing to do is the most obvious. So obvious that you need someone else to write an easy-to-read parable around common sense.

Just like chicken soup.

I have chicken soup on the brain because one of my kids is under the weather.

The answer was clearly chicken soup.

For it to be effective, it has to be made from scratch and include matzo balls.

The golf ball sized balls, not the softball sized ones you see in some Jewish delis. Those are weird!

Let me know if you want my recipe.

🧘‍♂ Last Word.

If we’re on a nineties kick around Jewish penicillin, here’s Paula Abdul saying baruch hashem.
