Teaching myself to teach AI to teach me how to build an SEO optimized directory with AI. Day Two
I’ve been using both Claude and Gemini to teach me. So far, Gemini seems to be more focused on SEO performance, which is the sweet, sweet money juice I’m looking for. On the other hand, what the hell do I know? Claude has been giving me coding homework to do so I learn HTML (yesterday) and JavaScript (today), before showing me how to build websites. Nothing fancy, just enough to smell bullshit.
It feels slower, like walking through molasses. Ultimately I’m just trying to learn how to automate as much as possible, so why do I need this in my brain? But in doing the second project (look below in 🍯 🦡 Building for a link), the JSON file failed validation even though I followed instructions to the letter. The error codes were useless in telling AI what needed to be fixed. Because Claude forced me to learn JavaScript I remembered a problem with escaping apostrophes. Rather than manually fix the file I prompted:
Fix this JSON - it has apostrophes breaking the strings. Escape all apostrophes properly or remove them:It worked a charm. I figured it out because I went back and forth with the 🤖 trying to understand out what was wrong. 🤖 didn’t get it, but the conversation eventually jogged my memory of the JavaScript training that same 🤖 had asked me to follow.

What did I ship today?
The new version of the webpage doesn’t look very different, but the scaffolding changed significantly, much more SEO enabled. The search function is nice. I’ll work on adding some more functionality tomorrow before diving down the Gemini 🤖 version of project 2.
