Teaching myself to teach AI to teach me how to build an SEO optimized directory with AI. Day eight.
I was going to go back to finishing my AI powered course when I thought I should try something different. We’re getting near the end and the instructions are becoming increasingly technical for me to tell something else to do the work. This is exactly what I’m aiming at, and I’m happy to go through the process at least once so that I have an understanding of what is happening automatically in my imagined future.
But why wait for the future if I can have it right now?
I selected a vibe coding tool, emergent (see 🤑 Selling below)signed up for the free tier and gave it a go.
With a single prompt, and a tiny bit of (free) google scraper setup, plus a couple of question about what I’m looking for I got a first pas at a functioning site that is more complicated than anything I’ve built so far.
To be honest, I have not tested to see how the schema deployment worked out and how SEO friendly it is. It added 254 through scraping. Some of them are out of town and some of the classifications are wrong (pet food is not a restaurant type!). But there is a backend I can use to fix that.
I spent 23 seconds prompting it. Another 42 seconds answering questions and setting up a google API. The agent worked for about 7 minutes and there is a functioning site.
If I had paid for credits, this whole experiment would have cost me a little under $2. Let’s say I prompt the crap out of improving it, I doubt it will cost me more than $10. (I’ll let you know - future me).
That’s nuts.

Before I share a link to the site I want to show you the simplicity of the prompt I used to make this thing. It even asked me if I want to deploy when it was finished (with an upsell of $5 a month to host the damn thing)
I'm building a local registry for my town, Fair Lawn, NJ. I want it to list all of the businesses in town, those listed on google and those that are not. This should include municipal services such as town hall, the police, the library, schools, etc. I want to categorize all of the businesses. Each business should have its own web page which includes the name, phone number, website, location, phone number, as well as a short description. Users should be able to rate each entry and add their own reviews. The entire site should SEO optimize schemas so that Google has an easy time finding it. I want you to scrape all of the data and create the site. There needs to be a backend to edit the entries and to enrich them. Go!And here is a link to the site.
