Teaching myself to teach AI to teach me how to build an SEO optimized directory with AI. Day seventeen.
I really wasn’t looking forward to having to manually review those 320 entries. It seemed to defeat the whole purpose of having AI do the work.
But then I remembered the word of the week.
How’s that for a weirdly generic, and creepier, Pee-Wee Herman (PBUH)?
Instead of spending this morning adding features to the site, Claude and I enhanced the scraper to verify businesses are truly in the municipality we’re scraping and don’t already exist, so that the AI created description API is only called when needed.
It’s pennies now, literally $0.01 per entry, but when I expand the directory to my county, that will make a very big difference.
Updating the code had me thinking many of the same thoughts I had when building the basic HTML version of the site 3 weeks ago. It’s good to see how the sausage is made, but I don’t really know how to make the code changes. I’m just copy pasting code in locations dictated by the AI, and then seeing the results in the terminal when running the new routines or querying the DB.
Very soon I’ll start instructing the 🤖 to make the changes instead of using me as its glorified code monkey.
And with the changes we implemented, I no longer have to do manual validation.
